Over 208,764 eyelid surgeries were performed in 2010, making this surgery one of the top five cosmetic procedures in the United States. Also known as blepharoplasty, an eyelift is a popular cosmetic surgery that treats drooping eyelids by removing excess skin, fat or muscle from the upper and lower eyelids.

Drooping eyelids can be a result of a medical condition called ptosis, which is caused by poor muscle tone or nerve damage and can result in blocked vision because of drooping eyelids.

In most cases, however, eyelift surgeries are performed to combat the natural drooping that occurs with age.

Restoring a Youthful and Energetic Appearance

As we get older, skin loses its elasticity and excess skin can begin to form in the eye area. This causes eyes to look wrinkled, tired or puffy and can lead to an overall "older" appearance. While genetic factors and body chemistry can reduce the possibility of drooping eyelids, a large number of people in their 40s and 50s suffer from this condition.

Before & After Photos

Are you a candidate for an eyelift?

Are you physically healthy and emotionally stable? The ideal candidate for an eyelift is typically over the age of 35, but certain situations indicate the need for treatment of younger people.

The following factors may also exclude a candidate from receiving an eyelift: anatomy, bone and supporting structure, dry eyes, diabetes, high blood pressure, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, cardiovascular disease or Graves' disease.

About the Procedure

When you call our office about receiving an eyelift, we will take the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, the risks involved, the cost, and what you can expect after surgery. Here at the Pacific Plastic Surgery Group, we believe that the best results are achieved by listening to the concerns and needs of our patients.

During your initial consultation, our Board Certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Miranda, will show you before and after pictures of what you can expect from your eyelift.

During the surgery, Dr. Miranda will make incisions along the line creases of the upper eyelid and the outer lower rim of the eye's skin if needed. We perform eyelid surgeries under local anesthesia in the private surgery center that our office is affiliated with so that you can have the highest level of comfort, and the surgery may last up to three hours.
