LiposuctionSan Francisco

Liposuction has enabled thousands of men and women to reshape their bodies in a safe, meaningful way. Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits and improving your body contours and proportion. The final result is a freshly contoured physique that shows off your natural proportions and enhances the beauty of your body.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is commonly misperceived as a procedure for people who have chosen not to actively maintain healthy habits and a healthy body. However, this is hardly the case. Even physically active individuals that maintain a healthy diet can suffer from troublesome stubborn areas of fat on the body.

Other times, genetics and hereditary traits are to blame for a body that cannot seem to keep off the extra weight or eliminate certain areas of excess fat with diet & exercise alone. Liposuction surgery is an advanced form of body contouring that will help you achieve your body goals. This technique has been around for decades and over the years has been perfected and improved to help men and women get rid of stubborn fat deposits. At Pacific Plastic Surgery Group we strive to deliver the best liposuction San Francisco has to offer and we specialize in a few different types of liposuction:

Types of Liposuction

Tumescent Liposuction:

This form of liposuction implements an advanced fluid that helps prepare the treatment area for optimal surgery and recovery. Tumescent fluid is an anesthetic solution that is infused into the treatment area before fat removal.

If the treatment area is small, tumescent fluid may be all that is needed to numb the site. Tumescent fluid is a cutting-edge technique used in liposuction today and can be combined with many different lipo techniques. The primary advantage of tumescent fluid is that it causes blood vessels to constrict. This causes less bleeding during surgery, resulting in less bruising and discomfort during recovery. Tumescent fluid may even help patients to have a shorter recovery period. Once tumescent fluid has been administered, a cannula will be used to remove fat cells and the treatment area will be masterfully sculpted.

Vaser Liposuction:

This advanced development in liposuction is often combined with tumescent fluid for optimal results. VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance. This method of fat removal uses ultrasonic energy to break apart fat cells and help them to be extracted easily. In a Vaser treatment, tumescent fluid is first administered to the predetermined area. The ultrasonic device is then used to emit sound waves. The sound waves cause air bubbles in the fluid to fluctuate and gently dislodge fat cells from the healthy skin and muscle tissues in the surrounding area. A cannula will then be used to remove both fat cells and tumescent liquid. Vaser liposuction is a revolutionary way of slimming down fat stores and helping patients reach their aesthetic goals.

What are the Benefits of Liposuction?

Getting your liposuction at Pacific Plastic Surgery Group is a great way to contour the body and get rid of bothersome fat in one simple treatment. We use advanced techniques to help our San Francisco liposuction patients achieve their best outcomes. These techniques each provide unique benefits that will help ensure the best outcome. The advanced techniques we use will help you look your best in no time! Many patients seek out liposuction because they are not achieving their body goals, even with healthy eating and daily workouts. This resistant fat is called subcutaneous fat and it is just below the skin layer. Liposuction is the best technique to remove this stubborn fat and help get the results you desire.

Criteria For Liposuction Surgery

Also referred to as liposculpture or sometimes even lipoplasty, liposuction is a type of cosmetic surgery that effectively treats stubborn pockets of fat that have built up and altered the contours/shape of a man or woman’s body.

The ideal candidates for liposuction are non-smoking individuals who are within 30% of their ideal weight & have no life-threatening illnesses or medical conditions that could interfere with healing. Generally, the best candidates for liposuction have firm, elastic skin & good muscle tone; however, this is not required for surgery.

Liposuction is NOT a viable treatment option for obesity or a substitute for proper diet & exercise. It is also not an effective treatment for cellulite or loose, saggy skin. Depending on the desired look you are going for, you can have anywhere from a few ounces to ten pounds of fat removed from your body in a single session of liposuction.

If you are considering surgery for any of the following areas, you should not hesitate to contact Pacific Plastic Surgery Group as soon as possible: stomach/abdomen, flanks, hips, butt, inner thighs, outer thighs, back, neck, chin, and upper arms. In some cases, liposuction can be performed on the ankles, calves, inner knee and areas of the waist as well.

Personal Consultation

During your meeting with our highly qualified San Francaisco plastic surgeon, you will be informed about liposuction, the techniques we offer and how the treatment can be used to improve your appearance. A crucial element of a personal consultation is learning about you. Before scheduling a surgical date, we need to ensure that you are healthy and qualified for lipo surgery. An examination of your problem area will be performed. We will be looking for healthy skin and making sure that enough fat is present to be contoured with liposuction. We will also ask questions about your health, medical history, and medication and supplement regimen.

This information will help us determine your best treatment plan. We encourage our patients to ask lots of questions and voice any concerns they may have. Some patients write down their questions beforehand and bring them to their consultation. Feel free to give our office a call if you have more questions. We are here to help you! By the end of your consultation, we will have determined if liposuction is a good solution for you and which technique is best. After your treatment plan is prepared, we will go ahead and schedule your appointment!

Liposuction Preparation

Liposuction is a minimally-invasive surgery that will require preparation to ensure a healthy surgery and the best results. Part of these steps include:

  • Arranging rides to and from the appointment. Rides may also be needed in the first few days of recovery.
  • Fill and pick-up medications.
  • Set aside an area of your home as a recovery area. This area should be stocked with entertainment, water, blankets, pillows, medications and healthy snacks.
  • Take time off from work.
  • Arrange for a friend or family member to spend the first few days of recovery with you. You may need time to adjust to movement after surgery and it often helps to have a friend around.

We will provide you with detailed instructions on how to prepare for your procedure during your personal consultation.

The PPSG Technique

First, anesthesia is administered to minimize any discomfort to the patient during the surgical procedure. If the area being treated is small enough, local anesthesia will suffice but for larger treatment areas we recommend IV sedation or general anesthesia. Next, our board certified plastic surgeon will make a few small inconspicuous incisions to access the treatment areas. Then tumescent anesthetic solution is infused into the treatment area which helps to reduce your risks of bleeding, trauma, and bruising.

For certain patients or certain treatment areas, the surgeon may then pre-treat the fat with an ultrasonic (Vaser) which essentially melts the fat making it easier to remove. Lastly, the surgeon inserts a thin hollow tube through the incisions to suction out the areas of unwanted fat. The incisions are then closed and you are brought to a recovery room where you will stay until the anesthesia has worn off and you are ready to be taken home. Most liposuction patients choose to go home after surgery, but we do offer overnight stays for patients who need closer monitoring.

Recovery

After surgery, you can expect to be sent home wearing a compression garment. This garment assists in the healing process & should be worn for approximately two weeks following your surgery.

Results

As soon as your swelling subsides you will begin to see noticeable improvements that will only continue to improve over the next few weeks. Some patients have continued to see results for up to three months after surgery. Contact our office today to learn more about the procedure from a professional San Francisco liposuction surgeon.
