According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), plastic surgery procedures have risen by 5% from 2011-2012. About 4.6 million procedures took place last year, including both surgical and minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive procedures usually include Botox, laser hair removal, and chemical procedures while surgical procedures would encompass liposuction, implants, and reshaping of various body parts.

This data would suggest that Americans are becoming increasingly comfortable with plastic surgery, especially the minimally invasive procedures, which reached an all-time high of 13 million. The ASPS president suggests that this could be because people have less income to spend on more expensive procedures, or simply that people are just generally taking better care of their bodies so they don't have to turn to a surgical procedure.

The top surgery of 2012 was Botox®, which helps to reduce wrinkles on the face and body. The ASPS president also suggested that those interested in plastic surgery should do research before getting anything done, which should reduce risks. He recommends that people search for a board-certified plastic surgeon, like the surgeons at the Pacific Plastic Surgery Group.
