What is Profound RF and Profound SubQ?
ProfoundRF uses a 5-paired micro-needle electrode device with bipolar Radio Frequency energy to precisely deliver fractionated thermal stimulation to the deepest levels of your skin where the concentration of naturally-occurring elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid is the highest. These thermal stimuli induce a wound healing response that provides dermal remodeling in these three components, which are integral in creating volume and firmness to the skin.
Profound SubQ takes the process of skin rejuvenation one step further by going below the dermal tissue (approximately 6mm) where fibrous tissue and fat cells reside. The 7-paired micro-needles and the heat from the radio frequency work together to cause precise thermal reduction to cellulite and the underlying fat. Profound SubQ is primarily used in conjunction dermal layer treatment to obtain smoother and tighter skin.

What Areas Can You Treat?
Profound stimulates new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation, resulting in visible skin improvements. If you have any of the following concerns, ProfoundRF and Profound SubQ might be the right treatment for you!
- Loose or sagging skin on the face (Smile Lines/ Nasolabial and Marionette lines)
- Loose or sagging skin on the neck (Neck Strands, Platysma bands and Turkey Neck/ Jowls)
- Loose or sagging skin under the chin (Jawline and Chin/ Submental)
- Under Chin Fat (Double Chin)
- Loose or sagging skin on the body (abdomen, arms, legs, buttocks, thighs, bra rolls)
- Cellulite and more!
Each treatment begins with a complimentary consultation with one of our trained medical providers. After creating a customized treatment and you are deemed a good candidate the procedure will be scheduled.
- Numbing cream will be applied to the area(s) being treated.
- Next, local anesthetic to the deeper dermal layers will be injected for optimal comfort.
- Once the anesthetic has taken affect, the Profound treatment begins. The Profound micro-needle device uses either a 5-paired or 7-paired electrode that is inserted for 3-4 seconds.
- After the area(s) have been treated, a nourishing cream and SPF are applied.
Patients can expect to see their results approximately three months after their procedure, the treatment will continue to improve over the course of 12 months.
What is elastin?
Elastin is a protein found in connective tissue that has coil and recoil properties—like a spring or rubber band. coils and recoils like a spring within the elastic fibers of connective tissue in the body – like your skin. Elastin is responsible for allowing your skin, heart, lungs and many other tissues to snap back into shape after stretching or contracting.
What is collagen?
Collagen is a group of proteins also found in connective tissue. Its main function is to provide rigidity and strength. It is the foundation upon which the outer layers of the skin and other tissues are anchored.
Why are elastin and collagen important?
The two proteins are critical components the prevention and cause of wrinkles and sagging skin.
These proteins are found at different depths with collagen at deeper dermal depth, whereas elastin is more superficial. Together, they promote skin strength, firmness, and shape. The collagen provides the foundational rigidity while elastin allows skin to stretch and return to its previous shape. Over time, these proteins naturally become less abundant and as you can imagine the effects can be very apparent.
What is the best method to build elastin and collagen?
In order to build new elastin, which generally is no longer naturally made after puberty, you need to cause a certain amount of damage to the skin to incite a healing process that can begin to build new elastin. Profound is clinically proven to build new collagen and elastin though carefully controlled heating (ie tissue stimulation) of the deep skin tissue.
What recovery can be expected after the procedure
Minimal side effects include swelling and tenderness for 24-48 hours, resolving by days 5 to 7. Bruising takes from 7 to 14 days depending on the patient.
We recommend LED Light Therapy to reduce swelling and minimize bruising. Again, these symptoms’ duration varies from patient-to-patient.
Patients can expect to see their results approximately three months after their procedure as new elastin and collagen are formed within the tissue. The treatment will continue to improve over the course of 12 months*.
*Individual results may vary
How do Profound results compare to Ultherapy and microneedling?
Ultherapy and microneedling are both effective at causing small amounts of structural changes to the skin, thus beginning the natural healing process and formation of new elastin and collagen. We have found that with the more aggressive, yet controlled approach using Profound, patients have been more satisfied with results.
As with all skin treatment, results can vary based on patient age, skin damage, smoking, health, skin type, etc.
Does profound require multiple treatments
We generally recommend one treatment for optimal results; however, the aging process continues despite all attempts to combat wrinkles and aging skin. While the profound treatment is excellent at improving skin elastin and collagen, there may be a need for future “touch ups” in the following years. Results typically begin to show several weeks after the procedure as new connective tissue forms, but most people see maximum results between three and nine months after the procedure.
Can profound replace a face lift, liposuction, or tummy tuck
Profound is not meant to replace procedures that will dramatically change the skin, such as with a facelift, liposuction, or tummy tuck. Profound targets a specific portion of skin in a different way than we do with surgery. It is best to think of this as a way to provide skin tightening and not a change to the overall shape or volume of skin.
Will profound combined with PRP help with results?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) contains numerous growth factors that, when combined with skin penetrating procedures like Profound and microneedling, acts synergistically with the already stimulated natural healing process to create new collagen and elastin.
We support the use of PRP with Profound to help improve results and potentially decreasing healing time.
Will profound affect darker skin colors?
Because Profound is treating below the epidermal layers the treatment should not affect darker skin tones.
Will I be able to drive myself home after the treatment?
Topical numbing cream and local anesthetic injections are done to minimize pain during the treatment, which would enable you to drive yourself to and from your treatment.
However, some patients may require additional sedative medications to make them more comfortable. These patients will need to arrange transportation with a friend, family member, etc for after.
Is There Downtime?
Yes and no. Expect swelling and bruising for about 3-5 days as Profound causes your skin to make new connective tissue. Swelling and bruising varies among patients. Your skin may have temporary bumps for a few days. This is a natural reaction to the micro needle insertion points.
With that said, you will physically be able to leave your home, go to work, exercise, etc.
