Botox Post Op Care Instructions
San Francisco’s premier plastic surgeon

The following instructions should be followed closely except when overruled by specific procedural instructions. You must follow your surgeon’s instructions as indicated for your specific surgery. Notify your doctor of any unusual changes in your condition and feel free to call the office with any questions.

  1. Visible bumps may be seen at the injection sites. These are normal and may last up to a few hours.
  2. Avoid manipulating or rubbing around the injection site for 24 hours. This can cause the Botox solution to migrate or move around, making it more likely to impact areas beyond the desired muscles.
  3. Avoid exercising or excessively using the targeted muscle for at least 4 hours after Botox injections.
  4. If the forehead was treated, do not wear a hat or headband for 48 hours.
  5. You may cleanse your face normally this evening but please do not massage the injection area. If you routinely use a Clarisonic brush, do not use it tonight. Also, do not use any abrasive exfoliants or scrubs.
  6. Bruising may be seen. This happens in a small percentage of treatments but will not affect your treatment results. There also may be some discomfort associated with it. Bruising should resolve within one week. The use of Arnica Montana may help with bruising. It is available topically, as well as orally. Follow bottle directions.
  7. While you may see results in as little as 48 to 72 hours after injection, this is not typical. Most patients do not notice full impact from the treatment for 7 to 14 days. You should wait at least 30 days before deciding if you want additional treatment to avoid over-treating an area.
  8. Although exceptionally rare, an allergic reaction to Botox is possible. If you notice skin redness of an extreme nature, excessive swelling or a developing rash, call the office immediately or arrange to be seen by a physician. The same is necessary if you experience puffy or very swollen eyes, a severe headache, or other adverse reactions. Previous treatments can cause antibodies to develop that can lead to undesired reactions.
  9. Feel free to contact this facility with questions, comments or concerns at any time following treatment. We want you to be safe, happy, and completely satisfied.
